Hello and welcome to ‘Joanne Wright Psychology’. I am sure you would like to know about my professional qualifications, experience and ethos towards therapy.

My primary background is as a qualified Psychologist. Psychology is based upon an evidence based approach to the study of people: the mind and behaviour.

The primary ethos is that our thoughts and beliefs impact upon our behaviour, emotions and attitudes. By adapting the way we think, we can change the way in which we view or approach situations, difficulties or challenges.

I firmly believe that people have the capacity for change, my aim is to work with you in order to facilitate lasting changes in the way you approach or manage your life challenges

These can be relating to work or personal situations, such as preparing for an important event. This can include assessments, wedding speeches, interviews or driving tests. It can also relate to addressing phobias, trauma, weight management, substance use or irritable bowel symptom (IBS).

I am an Associate Fellow and Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), the representative professional body for psychology in the UK.

I am also registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC were set up to protect the public and set standards for practice.

As such, you can be assured that I am highly qualified in my role and that I will practice ethically, appropriately and responsibly, I have over 20 years’ experience of working with people psychologically

This has included working with offenders in prison and the community, the police, senior managers, probation and social services. My employment has incorporated therapy, risk assessment, staff training, crisis intervention and policy development.

I now work in private practice as this enables me to engage with a wider client group. In addition to being a Chartered Psychologist, I am also qualified in:

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Clinical Hypnotherapy, including smoking cessation and weight management

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)These forms of therapy are explained further under Therapy.
